Is there anyone out there who is just starting a TEFL career and is over 50. I am trying to find where to look. |

We have to assume that you have never actually read any of the replies to your previous posts and queries.
52 years old.
degree
post grad
looking at a CELTA (or other reputable course)
Afraid to actually commit to doing this (understandable - most people are afraid of the unknown).
Pick a country. Had you actually committed to the idea you would be working now. (you missed the main hiring periods for about 1/2 of Asia already).
Boots on the ground and you would be working within a few weeks of landing in almost all Asian countries. In places like Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, or China you can be assured of almost immediate employment (unless you are Black or Asian - there is a decided bent toward Caucasians and racial bias is evident (and allowed) in hiring practices).
Typically, Asia has the highest demand for EFL teachers (usually working with kids).
IF you are more "adult oriented" then perhaps the countries south of the Rio Grande might be more along your search lines.
Get (low res) scans of your relevant documents (degree, passport, CBC and TEFL cert (when you get one)
Prepare your resume and then start e-mailing to recruiters (from this site, and others).
You will get offers.
Baring that, the only other real option is to get your documents ready, pick a country and buy a plane ticket.
Reading the FAQs is also a good thing for newbies to do.

Russian and Ukrainian employers are open-minded too. Although Americans will find it easier to get employment in Russia. (In Ukraine, EU citizens can enter without a visa, making it easier to get a foot in the door.) |
