Hello everybody! I am currently in the USA taking a brief break from EFL teaching, but am looking into giving Vietnam another shot. Right now, I am looking at a early November return. Can anyone tell me what are the chances of my landing a teaching gig are then? Oh, I am a 50-year old who've graduated from uni in the early 90's with a TESOL certificate. I'm looking into teaching in HCMC, although a Hanoi encore hasn't been ruled out (I taught at two schools there from May 2010 until last April). Cheers!

ILA seems always to be hiring.

It's a pretty good school, and the pay is alright.

I was 53 when I taught there MS Ed, 20 years American public school experience so I know a lousy school when I see one. ILA is OK (as these TEFL jobs go). Just try to avoid the salaried contract if you can and work hourly. You've got a lot more autonomy and flexibility that way. Save yourself a lot of angst.

**edit**
They were also willing to work with me from the States, so you might give them a call, talk to an HR person about your Nov arrival. I was able to have the job waiting for me before I set foot in the country.

I've tried ILA earlier this year in Hanoi and they told me they required a CELTA as opposed to a TESOL (which I hold). Thanks anyways.

There is some work in Hanoi. If you've been here before, as opposed to a newbie, you'll survive.

As for ILA, they want young fresh fish with little or no experience, and they are not centrally located.

Try the chains. You can also find hours at the smaller mom and pop shops.

Important to consider is that if you arrive in November, Tet will be around the corner, and it will be slow.
