Hello,

I'm heading to Wuhan at the end of august, from the UK. Just wondering what sort of medical insurance/insurance in general people have tended to go for during their stay in China?

Thanks

if you're coming to China to work your school should set you up with some insurance. Ours is ok but it only covers treatment in China obviously and the coverage is fairly basic. If you want more comprehensive coverage that will do more for you in case of catastrophic illness/accident you can buy a years worth of insurance from a company such as Travel Cuts or World Nomads.

I've used and made claims on both in the past. No hassles with either one but World Nomads had a couple of advantages Travel Cuts didn't have such as I could renew the policy from anywhere in the world whereas Travel Cuts would only sell you the insurance if you were in your home country. This may all have changed by now as I haven't used either one of these companies in five or six years.

Neither of my last two schools provided paid medical insurance although the last organised the Peoples Insurance Corp of China rep to come to school and talk to the FTS.
A year's PICC cover is about RMB1400 from memory and they have branches everywhere (big red 'PICC' billboard).
Never had a claim but the two reps I dealt with were excellent.
Like changing money this topic has had mega coverage on Dave's so there will be plenty to read if the search function is operating.

Thanks people, I will have a look into it. It looks like getting insurance cover in China might be cheaper. I did search for insurance before posting, couldn't find any useful threads?

The school does offer cover, but it wouldn't cover every eventuality and I guess it would be best to err on the side of caution!

Thanks again
