Hi

I posted last year about a job offer in Jiangsu at the Taiwanese school. Well it has been 6 months in Kunshan now. I didn't get my work visa until 5 months. My contract stated 60 days.
My employer sent me to HK to get a 30 day Z visa.
It has been a roller coaster ride since I got to China. Just wanted to let you know that I completed my first half of the contract. I am on vacation in the US now, but will return to Shanghai next week.

Thanks for the advise. c
What country is hot for esl jobs other than China? I am looking to make a move in 2012.

Depends what you are looking for.

Money?

Lifestyle?

Fun?

Experience?

What are you looking for?

Hi All

Thanks for the replies. I want to move on because China is not easy to live in for me. I will return to complete my contract and also look for another job. I agree with one poster who said the focus on this blog is sinocentric. I notice that most of the jobs are in Asia still. I like living overseas. I like the money I am making too. I have a boyfriend and friends. So I can't complain, but it is important to look beyond your present situation and plan for the future. I am a newbie in this ESL game.

I am looking for a country that is single black female friendly.
It was hard for me and other black women I have met in China to socialize with men. I won't go into the horror stories.
I have been lucky that I found men in China who liked me and were willing to help me. I have a good boyfriend who has ambition and style.
I am just looking over the horizon. Thanks

Guangzhou has a significant sub-Saharan African community; I live with a Kenyan woman and thus know of it. It is not the easiest place for Africans to get work teaching English, though there are Africans doing it, and certainly American blacks would have much more opportunity than Africans. Many of the Africans are in the export business. You will certainly encounter prejudice in China and in Guangzhou, perhaps more in big eastern cities like Guangzhou than in interior cities, where blacks are a relative unknown and people are simply curious. There are black people from America working as teachers here in Guangzhou.

Hello

Mr English thanks for the advise ,but I am not looking for a job in Guangzhou.

I am back in the US. I am still job hunting. I don't want to return to Kunshan. If I return to China it will have to be a big city like Shanghai.

As a black woman I can't comment on how it would be for a black man. It will be the same I guess. Alot of Chinese stare at blacks, but most are polite.

Guangzhou is a big city, extremely big, and the urban region that runs from Hong Kong/Macao/Shenzhen to Guangzhou is the second biggest in the world, after the Tokyo/Yokohama/Chiba/Kawasaki/Saitama region.
