4 old farts - the rest a bunch of kids.

I was at a beach resort town last weekend, and met a teacher from another school. He visits the town regularly and knows most of the teachers from our school. He remarked to me "The teachers at your school are so OLD!" Shocked

I was a bit taken back by this statement, and asked him about it. At his school of maybe 8 or 10 teachers, all are 21 or 22 years old! At my school, the youngest is 23, with several in the mid-twenties, two in the early 30s, and me the old fart at 37.

at the end of the day, most people at my school seem to have their heads screwed on straight. however, it seems that each one has a clear and visible quirk, and perhaps its because of these quirks that they came to china (maybe coming to china itself is an indication of idiosyncrisy?). i also wonder sometimes if these people are maybe, back home at least, defined or recognized by these wrinkles and that's why they've had difficulties in the past (baggage seems to be prevalent among the entire staff). hopefully they are getting on along better here where they can just be themselves and not worry too much about bing judged. when you remove consevative and judgmental elements from the equation (like those cops back home who insist on questioning me), people will thrive. so no, nobody at my school is insane. perhaps they simply werent given a fair shake somewhere along the road.

Dear dan,

Well, except for you, of course. Thank heavens there's at least one quirkless individual there.
Regards,
Quirky John
