I moved to a new city and got my residence permit changed over. Is it true we don't need another residence permit stamp in the passport? I have a white sheet instead with a red stamp that has 2012 July in it. I am assuming this is the appropriate extension paperwork. In Japan, they put an orange stamp in the passport, and in Korea they updated an alien registration card. However, in China it seems like they do neither of these.

So, is this white piece of paper enough? Should I go back and ask for a stamp in my passport which says 2012?

If I leave china for good, do I have to give the white piece of paper to immigration at the airport?

I have only ever extended mine while staying in the same place, but have always had the old sticker RP cancelled by stamp and a new one, with dates, name passport number etc. stuck in my passport. Assume the RP in your passport was not cancelled, but does that mean if you travel after the RP expiration date in the passport you have to also carry around an easily lost loose slip of paper?

i'm guessing that white sheet with a stamp is just your
registration with the psb.

if you're going to be working (legal-like), then your school
needs to help you sort it all out fairly quickly.

with the psb registration and health certificate (you may need
a new one), you can apply for the fec. with the fec, you may
apply for your residence permit.

so when does your current RP expire?

and guessing again, but with only a registration sheet, and
if you travel after your rp expires, you may be in for a penalty
fee at immigration, and you'll need a new visa to re-enter.

What you're saying here is a bit confusing to me. What is a "Residence Permit Stamp"? he only stamps appearing in my passport are the "cancelled" stamp on my expired RP and the entry and exit stamps from customs.

A real RP looks just like a visa and is permanently affixed in the passport. It is blueish. This document (piece of white paper) has a July 2012 date. It doesn't appear to be an extension, but rather a new 1-year RP. If so, it's appearance is unusual. It's not just a receipt that says your RP is being processed, is it? Why not ask your school what the heck is going on? Do you have your FEC yet? Have you registered with the local PSB? Had your medical?

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I've never seen anything like this, a white paper inserted (how?) in a passport. I have sen white extension papers inserted in an FEC.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Sorry guys, I got freaked out reading all your comments just now. Apparently, they don't put the stickers in chronological order in the passport. After a second look through, I do see a new sticker was put in the passport which has 2012 in it.

The school only told me about the white sheet which says, "Registration Form Of Temporary Residence" also with a 2012 date in it.

Besides the booklet that we are supposed also get that looks like a smaller passport, is there anything else I need?

You only need the passport sticker/stamp and the Foreign Expert booklet (the one that looks like a small passport). If the dates are good, then you are good.

Local Police Registration Form. You need that too.
