Yeah I can relate to this.
The main thing for me is the people. I didn't get along with Korean people and their chip-on-the-shoulder mentality. Mention Japan and it is inevitably followed by a rant about something or other (Dokdo, Kim Yuna, etc etc).
I would have to think long and hard to say how Korea betters Japan. OK, the price of taxis. And....nope, that's it.
