Hi everyone,

As some of you might remember I've posted a question on here before about teaching French in Tokyo (my boyfriend is French and will join me in Japan in October).

BUT he's just been turned down by NOVA, and we don't know any other companies that hire from overseas for French speakers. At the minute his plan is to get a Working Holiday Visa and come to Japan anyway, as he doesn't mind doing bar work etc, plus I will have an apartment in Tokyo so he'll have somewhere to stay, phone, internet etc while he finds something.

Does anyone know how easy it would be for him to pick up freelance or private French tutoring in Tokyo? When he arrives he will have a Master's in English and a certificate in teaching French as a foreign language. He is learning Japanese in France at present (though obviously won't be at the level needed for non-teaching jobs).

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

Laura

You cannot do bar work legally on a working holiday visa. Beware.

Sometimes you see ads for French teachers in The Japan Times or on www.ohayosensei.com .

Has he tried Berlitz?

Hey Laura

We have somewhat parallel lives i think. I'm in Japan.... and my man is also French.

For "FLE au Japon," Check out this guy's website:

http://www.dromadaire.com/Musume/prof

He has a section on FLE that may be of some interest. He says he also worked for l'Institut Franco-Japonais a Yokohama... which is not too far from Tokyo if your mec doesn't mind the commute.

There's also this website:

Thanks everyone. My mec has now been informed of your replies, so hopefully something should work out. Very Happy
