Gold is just a symbol of value like any currency. If financial calamity hits, gold won't be a haven. You can't eat it or use it for fuel or to cover your head from the rain. Not that you should fill your garage with bottled water and ammunition, either. But just saying, there's nothing magical about it that protects it from normal economic forces.
