Let's say, in a worst case scenario, the toddler becomes ill. I don't think that a business visa will get you into a government-operated hospital and the privates will very quickly put you into the poorhouse. princessali, do you realize that they still have debtors prisons in the ME?
I'm assuming, by your alias, that you're a convert. Do you think that performing raka in the same direction as your Saudi sisters five times a day will get you any kind of hustle?
Early on when I observed how the Al-Zahran Group, who supplied the cleaning support staff to the RSAF, did I realize that there are two kinds of Muslims in Saudi: Those with a capital "M" and those with a lower case "m". You know, the kind that don't get paid for months at a time and had to rely on the largess of we westerners who would regularly hold collections for them and pay them to wash our cars out in the oppressive heat. Just so they could have something to eat.
You would be placed within the latter.

Princesali,
Good luck to you and keep us posted on how it goes.
You may just want take some good medications if any for your child(against diaria or fever etc). The Usual things that come with new place such as food allergies etc.
Stay out of junk food specially if your child is not breastfed(use fruits ). I'm not saying the place is health hazard, it just saves you trip to the hospital specially since you're new so i would rather have medicines with me that i'm familiar with than run around.
I think the most important thing for you is finding good baby sitter. If you don't have anything line up just get there week or two early to sort it out.
Check out this blog about finding baby sitter: http://www.expat-blog.com/en/destination/middle-east/saudi-arabia/riyadh/
By the way, can you PM me with your email since dave doesn't work in Saudi. I'm interested to know if Adwaa is any different. |

Yes, geela, you sound more and more like a recruiter plant. Of course, bring your nursing child into the Kingdom...other posters who actually care, don't.
Come hither...

I did the same turned down their contract after I read it. The contract does not make sense to me. it does not have anything about health cover. And when I contact them they said Medical is general thing and according to Saudi law its covered even we mention or not. so not necessary to mention!!!!. Can u image that they mention the holiday and working Hours but health cover no need to mention????? |

You are, in essence, giving her the go-ahead by being implicitly behind her.
O.K., I get it. You're British educated. Forget the spelling, capitalization, spacing, article deletions, count/non count noun, and other errors in your post! Forget the fact that you've never been there before!
Disagree all you want, but the last post of yours does not sound like you are telling her not to take her 6-month older into the Kingdom to teach illegally and without ANY legal recourse! Particularly after I laid out just ONE worst case scenario! There are many.
It's a serious mistake that she's about to make! |

I've decided that I am not going to accept as it is not a wise choice especially with a 6month old baby.
Also with a business visa, you can't even complain to the labour court as you would be working illegally!
Thanks |

It is a relief to read this news princessali. While the tax free pay may look tempting, I think it is way too much risk for you and the baby.

Dear princessali,
I'm sure it was a difficult decision, but I think you made the wise choice.

Thank you. All of our minds were on the baby and the plight that you very may have been put in. All has been written. Your time just isn't now.
It's a relief! |
