Hi there , can you please advise me about EFL job prospects and pay in Saudi.

I have;

TESOL Cert,
TESOL Diploma,
HND Business Studies,
first degree (Open University UK),
masters degree (MA Education),
PGCE (post compulsory)

Ive got 3 years experience as a Director of Studies of an EFL Dept. at a UK College of FE and facing possible redundancy. Ive been teaching for 17 years.

Given my situation, what kind of jobs and salary might I expect Thanks very much for your help.

You could do uni/college jobs. Working for my employer, with your qualifications, you would probably start off on a minimum of around US$42-43K per annum, plus all the usual benefits, such as free housing, transport allowance, etc.

Can one assume you wouldn't use this phrase on a resume or in a cover-letter because you're posting to an Internet forum?
Or teach it as anything other than spoken and informal?
I've heard salaries are higher from the military and oil interests than universities or government schools by a difference of a third and more.
Heard, that is...that Aramco might start off at 60K (USD) versus 40K from a university.

Aramco starts out much, much higher than your uninformed estimate.

It's true!

Dear knautica,

Can one also assume that your degrees are not "distance" ones?

Regards,
John

Uh-huh. And that figure is...?
And then there were the threads about direct-hire, and not, with Aramco.
I've noticed both Aramco and KAUST have many prospective teachers in a tizzy when it comes to salary.

Six figure salaries are pretty rare in the Gulf... but not at those two places.

Of course, there are very few openings and you'd better have a related MA and significant impressive experience.

I hadn't meant to imply incredulity. I've read the forum long enough to know six figures are possible for some...
But all? And starting?
And, as I said, there were threads about direct-hires versus some other situation...
I responded because "much, much" isn't specific, nor is qualifying that response as an understatement.

My wife has always told me that mentioning numbers is rude. Let's just say, I was offered a salary working direct for Aramco that was north of 100K, but less than 120K.

It's a lot of money!

Given the thread is about salary, an actual number, or range, would be, no?
