There's another American FT here whom I very rarely hangout or engage in any type of conversation with. Today she popped in because she had a question about her schedule for next term. Anyway...we got to talking and she said something to the effect of this: Universities in China are required by law to find jobs for their graduates or something dreadful happens to them. She was pretty vague about details. I've never heard anything about this. Has anyone else? |

At some colleges and universities, there are job fairs for graduates. In some colleges and universities, students are required to work for about a term or so before they can graduate.
I've never heard of a college or university being "required" to find jobs for graduates. |

I don't believe it. I've been in contact with students who graduated from our school over the past few years and not a single one of them ever told me the university found them a job. They all pounded the pavement looking like everyone else. |

My last school was a vocational college and the 2nd year of the 3-year Associate Degree was spent in paid (low) work in the industry. They were semi-assigned to employers by the school and because the jobs were tourism-related and this is China, the pretty ones got the pick of the positions.
The more homely (and I have to say able) students got lower grade positions.
Many returned for Year 3 with 'in the bag' offers from the places they did their internship with.
I think the school was active in finding the remaining grads jobs.
This was related to the wish to show successful outcomes for graduates to assist in recruiting freshmen.
I think it stopped short of the college being compelled to find jobs. |
