Read the linked article and slightly shuddered for the future of you older -- twenty nine years of age and up -- FTs in China.

The 26-year-old former psych major acknowledges that her lessons are meant to be performative, but maintains that "you have to strike a balance" between entertainment and instruction. The afternoon we meet, her dark hair is coiled flawlessly, her face thoroughly blushed and mascaraed. Cheerful and petite, she pairs a sleeveless black dress that puffs up around the bottom with cork wedges. "I can't wear the same thing twice," she titters softly. "They would notice."

Didn't it say Richard Eng is 47? Doesn't seem to be about age as much as it is marketing. There were better looking teachers at the cram school I worked for, but they (or we Wink ) weren't advertised like these tutors are.

Man, I wish I could figure out a way to get in on this. Wonder if foreigners are eligible? Wonder if any of this is emerging on the mainland.

I think if you're good looking and able to invest some money in refining your image, it can work. You'd also need to connect with a school that will market your presence like Richard Eng does. The school I worked for definitely favored attractive foreign teachers who were popular with the younger students. A lot of females would register at the school after seeing some of the attractive foreign male teachers, but it didn't seem to make those guys any more money. Language schools rarely do the same kind of image marketing that this guy, Richard Eng, is doing.

Not for the OP necessarily, but the crap in that article is just that. Parents don't know what their children are put through, horrid really.

Maybe it is our job to vacs them and force fluoride through their throats. As long as we have new clothes?

Irrational and petty are the only words I come up with after reading.

Why is a psychologist teaching in a non psych environ? Have a few ideas, but analysis is inaccurate, terminate, terminate...

I'm sure it wouldn't work with Western Teachers. Asians seem to have weird tastes in foreigners anyway. Have you seen some of the guys with hot Asian girlfriends? The girls were all over me like a rash when I was in Korea, and I have a face like a slapped arse. Go figure.

There was a western guy in one of their billboards. He was pretty hot. Those Asian guys though, not at all attractive in my opinion. Richard Eng looks like a dainty little lady.
