Does anybody know of any decent hostels or cheap long-term hotels in Izmir? I just need somewhere to stay until I find an apartment. |

I just Googled "hotels izmir" and there were a load of different sites to look at. Lonely Planet wasn't much use.
Are you already in Izmir? When I moved to Ankara I knew no nobody and had no idea where to start looking so I asked a taxi driver. Maybe I got lucky but he helped me find a decent one. (He reluctantly took me to look at some really cheap ones I'd read about on the net, even though he said he wouldn't stay there himself. He was right so we went back to the one he recommended-the downside were the late night parties and the very dodgy communal toilet. It was safe though and I stayed a month.) That could be worth a try
Can't your employer find you a homestay until you find somewhere? I know someone who did that too and it was also a good intro to life in Turkey. Could be a bit intense after a while but it would be less stressful than starting a new job and flat hunting (and then furniture buying, getting bills in your name, Internet connected etc) at the same time
Again, if you're in Izmir, you could always try posting an ad at the uni saying you want to rent a room/share with students (grads?)
Hope there's something of some use to you in all of this |

Just cruise down to the main train station. One street off to the left as you come out the front you will find all sorts of cheap hotels. 15tl per night, clean too. |

Thanks for all the tips. I will ask around once I am there. Most of the hotels and hostels in Izmir are all in one main area it seems. |

Yep, checked out a few hostels on there. I will see where they are once I'm in Izmir. |
