Thanks. Is it difficult to hire one ? From the posts I have read it seems that way. |

For a Saudi it is easy. For you it is not. When I was in Jeddah many foreigners had illegal domestic staff. These were typically Ethiopians and Eritreans who had come "on pilgrimage" and then disappeared into the Metropolis.
Some single males on the compound had live-in female "maids". Sort iof temporary concubines. |

What would the penalty for one who was found to be employing domestic staff illegally and are they hard working trustworthy etc?
There is a couple who both wish to work in KSA but have two children and are concerned about child care.
Thanks for the info. |

I'm probably diverting from the question here.. but how can a male have a female live-in maid? Is that allowed? If so, it's a bit hypocritical for a country that separates the sexes... |

Dear Mysteious,
Hypocrisy is, shall we say, not unknown in Saudi. In fact, some might describe it as the country's "signature characteristic."
Any society which tries to place lots of restrictions on human behavior that it not, in many/most places, considered to be "illegal" is highly likely to foment hypocritical behavior,
Just don't get caught.
Regards,
John |
