Since moving to Vietnam, I haven't been able to download anything with bit torrent. I used to be able to download stuff with ease. I don't know what the problem is. I am using Viettel 3G wireless, I know it's not the best. I have been able to download some things, but not big files like movies, or lots of music. Any advice? Thanks.

You may have already tried this, but you could try using a different torrent client (the program you use to download the torrent files).

I had always used a certain famous one beginning with lowercase 'Mum' I then tried a few recommendations from a freeware review website only to find that they didn't work, went back to 'mu' and found it worked a treat again.

I'm probably a little paranoid not writing the name of the client, but I'd hate for it to stop working Razz

Could be something else of course - facebook seems to work at home, but not at school and not at all wifi hot spots - have heard this is due to different service providers - who knows?

good luck Smile

Hmmm....have not tried any HUGE-bandwidth things (like BitTorrent or Skype) on my VietTel 3G stick yet (only simple, basic web-surfing)...but on all my other computers, my BitTorrent works just great......hmmm......weird.....

Bit of a mystery to me too Confused. Until very recently I had to use a browser to access Facebook (I used Tor), but now, at least where I live, it works fine just using the regular internet. For a while, I actually thought that the censorship of FB must have ended, but I have friends in other parts of Saigon who still have go the long way round to access it.

I find that downloading anything here you have two options....crappy and sucks....took me 7 days to download Shogun 2 off Steam as the speed crawled at 12-64 kb/s. If I was lucky at night it would jump to 250 kb/s. Guess all the Vietnamese stopped using up the server memory playing "Cross Fire" online then....

Actually from what I heard Facebook has been blocked by the Government here, something about negative things about them being posted. Of course though most Vietnamese have got around this though, and it isn't the provider, from what I understand, but if the coffee shop, or whoever, has changed the DNS on their connection to bypass the block....Some people, mostly foreign teachers who use Facebook to keep in contact with friends and family in the US, UK, AU, or wher eever, I know as well use privacy software, you can find online and download to your computer, that tricks the computer into thinking it is in the US, basically assigning US IP information from what I understand, and allows access to Facebook....

Yeah, I've used one of those programs and fiddled with dns settings before. Even at times some of those things didn't work. What I'm saying is that at the moment, my internet connection at home doesn't require anything whatsover and facebook works every time. Yet at school, without bothering trying the various methods, facebook doesn't work.

This suggests to me that the current situation is some of the isps are applying the ban and some aren't. Of course - it could be something else. and the likelihood of any of us mere mortals finding out is about as high as I can jump after 10 saigon whites (that's probably green to you) Very Happy

Facebook finally made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

August, 20 2011

FPT launches Facebook application
HA NOI FPT Technology Products Co Ltd will preload Facebook Apps for Java on FPT branded phones as of October.

The move follows FPT's becoming an official "preferred developer consultant" for Facebook.

Users will be able to log directly onto Facebook instead of using a web browser.

The other ISP's are probably playing hardball. Wonder how long it'll be before their head honcho's wake up with a horses head in their bed? Very Happy
