In my current country, having a beard is a disadvantage for finding jobs and fitting into the local culture. However, prior to coming here, I had a mustache and some kind of beard - full or goatee - most of my adult life.

Any social/cultural disadvantages a westerner should consider before growing a beard in Oman? Just stopped shaving today and will continue not shaving unless some of you westerners in Oman convince me that that would be unwise for some reason or other.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Facial hair is common in this part of the world. (need I say... for men?) The popular mustache/goatee combo is seen all over. I expect that your employer will want to see it neatly trimmed, although you may have male students with the scraggly, sloppy-looking conservative Muslim beard.

Let it grow ! No problem with any social stigma but I would keep it trimmed and clean - the scraggly beards only seem to suit the swarthy dishdasha'd type.

Now that was funny.

I bet that squirrel wears a short dishdasha too. Laughing
