While I agree with this to a large extent, I would add a caveat. Students of this age (and several years beyond) have very active fraud detection antennae--no doubt part of their identity formation process. So you must genuinely have a strong knowledge of your content area. If you don't, your students will know, and your ability to build relationships will suffer. And, of course, this will in turn affect your ability to manage the classroom.
