I'll bet all you HCTers are getting all excited about tomorrow's shindig, eh? Wink

It's going to be interesting what Sheikh Nancy has to say (in the low, slow, monotone voice)!

Just got back. My, it was fun! Overheard a colleague on the way out after the Sheik's speech: 'Hey, why did they theme this year's conference 'Raising The Bar'? Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to call it 'Barring The Raise'?'

Raising the bar? Now that's funny. Laughing

Unless, of course, it's in reference to plans for a new building. They're great at spending on buildings.Rolling Eyes

The HCT 'Goon Squad' senior management team are also inordinately fond of fireworks too. Hundreds of thousands of dirhams will continue to be wasted to 'fire up' the opening and closing ceremonies of those worthless conferences, such as Education without Borders and Festival of Thinkers, rather than using the money to invest in the colleges and education.

Clearly it's much more important to have fireworks and flown-in foreigners than spend it on the Emiratis' education. Mind you, that might not be a bad assessment of the relative importance of the nation's youth!

The vast majority of all faculty at HCT make much less than 20K (everyone who came in with me at my school is making between 14 and 17 per month). I know of several folks (all newer hires, within the last 2 to 3 years) who were given around 20K to start.

Yeah? But what about 2011? If they're cutting back financially, then it would stand to reason they are no longer bringing in new TESOL teachers at 20, 000 a month.

Is that 20, 000 a month for TESOL instructors with an M.A. or for Doctorates teaching TESOL / Content?

Or does it not matter?

Well at my campus, 2 of the new MA TESL/applied linguistics/TESOL instructors are making near 20K as new hires with about 7 to 10 years of experience....

We are not talking about content teachers, nor phds.
