I'm posting this here becuase I figure some peopel will have had the same problem. Way back in Jan 2003, I got a TEFL cert from the Boland school in Czech Rep. They also opened a school in China. I taught at the first one in Feng Xian before they moved to Suzhou because of issues they had witht he Chiense owner.
Fast forward to now and it looks like they went out of business last year. They still seem to do business in China, but not TEFL.
So where does that leave me? Is my cert valid? is it going to look fake? I did two MAs since then, in TEFL and Ed Admin, but now want to do a Trinity Dip.
HOw much of a problem is this going to cause me? |

None.
You are thinking like a Westerner while in the East. You have little to worry about (credentials); you earned the certificate and unless it is riddled in spelling mistakes or looks like a kindergarten art project you'l be fine.
You know this from past experience: Chinese schools (especially private schools) care little about their teachers so long as they are white, are a native English speaker, healthy, and have any sort of paper that can get them a visa. Your MA's alone are golden and more than enough to make 20k+ a month in an international school.
Panic not, if they need a foreigner they will take you. Some people worry too much on credentials and you know what? There is no need to here! Back at home, it means something to have multiple certificates and diplomas and degrees. To be sure it means something here, too. But I have scooped jobs from people with MA's and PhD's simply because the colour of my skin was more desirable so qualifications in the end don't mean shait around here unless you work for an international school or a high profile university like Fudan or Peking.
Still in Suwon? |

Yep, still in Suwon. It's not because I'm looking to work in China, ok, maybe, sometime down the road. But it's bucase I think it'll be an issue when I apply to get into a Trinity Dip course in Europe.
I dont' think I want to teach at an intl school. The first time scared me off And technically speaking everyone thinks I'm "brown" and a non native speaker |

I am just about to complete my Trinity DipTESOL. Off to London in 3 weeks for the Practical Block.
Why do you want to do a DipTESOL if you already have an MA in TESOL? It seems illogical. Or, is your MA from an unrecognised institution?
Just curious. Seems odd to me... |

Both my MAs are from recognised institutions.
MA in TEFL from Spain, so that kind of counts against me since it's not an English speaking country
masters in Professional Education and Training from Australia, more like ed admin.
Diplomas and masters are different though. MAs are often more theory based and diplomas are more hands on practical. My goal is to become a teacher trainer with SIT or Bell. I think that having both an MA and Dip would greatly help me out.
Are you doing yours from St George? |

I was accepted into the Trinity Diploma course in Scotland without a certificate.
And I agree that having a master's is much more theoretical than practical. |
