Or even best budget hotel in that area would be great news, and how about Kadikoy while we're at it? Need something decent and affordable for maybe a week, will be with wife and daughter. Lonely Planet only giving info on $100 per night and up. Whew, thats a bit steep for a straight week.

Hush Hostel is the only hostel that I know of on the Asian side. They have a private family room with bathroom and AC, their rates are reasonable (about 135 TL for a triple), and the staff is easy going.

There are so many hostels in the Sultanahmet district. Second Home Hostel is good and more family oriented than most of the ones in that area. You might want to consider a vacation rental. I have stayed at two near Taksim that were nearly the same cost as a hostel private ensuite room. Then you have a whole apartment to relax in with a kitchen so you don't have to eat out all of the time. Check them out on TripAdvisors.com.The two I stayed in were less than $100/night. Also Saruhan Hotel has good rates and big homemade breakfasts. It is in a quiet residential area less than 10 mins by foot to Sultanhamet Cami.

Hope that helps,
Nur

Have you checked out www.hostels.com/istanbul/turkey ?

There seems to be a wide range of hostels close to Sultanahmet, some only 250 metres from the Blue Mosque. Some start at $5 a night. I think you can browse and book on-line if you are not in Istanbul.
