Not all that uncommon, especially if their internet connection has a slow up-stream speed (bogs down on skype).
Phone calls may not be as cheap or have video but the audio is often better than using skype (depending on what countries the two parties are in).

Biggest con:
Neither of you can see the other person. That creates a vacuum where you don't know a person's mannerisms, whether they gesture when they talk, how they fidget, etc.
More:
Hard to give a demo lesson.
Could be problems with network speed and audio.
Can't always easily provide some additional document if requested (depends if you already have it scanned on your computer).
Not easy to take you down the hall to see another person if needed.
You can't see the facilities or meet the other staff.
Biggest pro:
You don't have to spend money getting there, and unless you really take the phone call seriously, you don't have to buy/wear a suit. |
