I'm leaving for another job after finishing two 6 month contacts at a Suneo university and was told the university will be taking back my vacation pay because it is a Mexican law that you have to work more than a year to get this benefit.
Can anyone comment? |

Yes, that is true. An employer is only required to give vacation pay after a full year of employment. My own experience has been that if you worked for close to a year they will sometimes pro-rate it. But they dont have to do, and if you left under less than favorable conditions. But if you worked 2 six month contracts I wonder how they are figuring that you worked for less than a year. |

They gave you two weeks paid vacation. You took it, then came back to work for a month and quit. That month post vacation is down time, when you are preparing for the fall semester. They feel that you should have just quit at the end of the past semester.
They are going to pay you half of your Christmas bonus with your last salary. Something the vast majority of schools employing foriegners in this country wouldn't do. That will be more than your vacation pay. |
