Hi everyone,
Wanted to start and say thank you everyone for your in depth posts, it really helps to understand the market in Mexico.
I am currently working on getting my MA TESOL stateside (not online) and wanted to see what I might be able to expect for positions in Mexico. I did a search on this in the forum and while I got some great info, I wanted a bit more details...
First things first: as far as experience goes I have only 6 months ESL experience in Guadalajara, Mexico (got a TEFL cert there, although it seems like Colombia prefers the CELTA), one year as a non-certified teacher in the states (tricky how I worked that one out), and one year as a intermediate school counselor.
Also, I'm also applying for a Fulbright ETA in Colombia that would begin fall 2012, so if I get that I'll have that under my belt as experience as well.
I'm hoping to get a relatively good paying university gig somewhere in Mexico, and it seems the biggest markets are in Oaxaca and DF. What are your guys thoughts on this? It seems salaries in Oaxaca range from 10,000-13,000+ MXP, and I saw one job ad for University work in Culiacan that was paying 22,000 MXP I think (but I don't think I want to live there for obvious reasons), what are the salaries like in DF for university teachers? What about GDL, Queretaro, Cuernavaca, Puebla, or other cities close to DF?
Thanks for your posts everyone, you'll see me post on a couple Latin American Forums as I'm interested in a couple countries in the area. |

"got a TEFL cert there, although it seems like Colombia prefers the CELTA"
Sorry, I copy and pasted this from a post I made on the Colombia Forum! From my limited experience in Mexico, it seems that overall they treat the CELTA and TEFL certs the same. |
