|

So I'm Chinese, and I've heard enough about me having a considerable disadvantage just because I am so, and not the ideal White face. Would you guys be able to help me list out the schools (chains, buxibans, etc.) in Taiwan which are particularly known not to care about what race the native English speaker is when hiring them? That would be immensely helpful. Thanks. |

I know how you feel. In America, I was denied a couple of jobs just because I was white. Those state school slots were allocated to "Affirmative Action" non-white recipients. Even in Taiwan as in other parts of Asia being white makes one standout and often gets shouted or stared at, so please don't think it is a wet dream here for all whites, because it isn't. Having said that; I wish you good luck and try to look beyond your race or looks. |

It should be a bit of a different situation since English is the international language and not just spoken by Whites. Imagine me, however, having such an "ideal" White face ( ch-:-p-eek ), trying to teach Chinese in America and going up against people of Chinese descent, native or not, trying for the same job. Who do you think will get the job? And who do you think will voice any care when a White person is "discriminated" against in such a manner? |

Haha. I absolutely understand the rationale. That's why I'm asking about the schools who just don't care and hire you based on your fluency and the way you present yourself. That's what it should come down to. But Asians are generally too narrow-minded to think like that. |

It is tough for everyone I know that is looking for a job. Some of the guys here are married, but only working an hour here and there. Wells School in Yuan Lin hires overseas Chinese. I know this because I used to work there. So if you want to check out a Wells school near your area it might be worth it. But like I said, it doesn't matter what you look like, because there just isn't a whole lot of teaching work out there. I am white and fifty years old, and most don't want to hire me, because I am too old for them. Pfff. |

Thank you very much for naming a school. You're more than welcome to name more if you are aware of them.
Is it really true that it's THAT hard to find jobs in Taiwan? "Dr. Zoidberg" told me that the thing that's been most irritating to him is that people my demographic (age 20-early 30's) complain that there are lack of jobs, when simply it's because they all want to be smack dab in the middle of Taipei, Taichung, or Kaohsiung. He went on to explain that there's plenty of jobs to be had if one looks in places slightly away from the Big 3. He, in his case, claims to work outside of Taichung but receives everything that Taichung has to offer, and is repeatedly given offers to this day from places which aren't situated in the biggest cities.
Your thoughts? |

Come over and find out for yourself? People on forums are only giving their opinion on the matter. Jump on a plan and find out the real deal |

Oh I'll do that in 3 to 4 months regardless. Just doesn't hurt to come a little more prepared. |

All the answers you seek can be found here. There are lots of busiban schools where I am; such as Kid Castle, Giraffe, Joy, Hess Wells school and Global village. I know that Wells and Global Village will hire ABCs. They are both adult schools; although you will get young students from high schools. If you are handsome and young, that is one up for you. I've see it all. One young guy dated one of his beautiful students at Wells School that I worked at. They dated for a while, then they started having quarrels; which eventually lead to the teacher getting fired. Good Luck and keep searching. |

Haha. Funny.
So, a BA bachelor's degree and a CELTA is enough to teach those adults at Wells and Global Village? |
