Just to paint you a picture so you can understand my situation. I finish my contract in Korea late November. Then I plan to go to Istanbul for just 1 year and live together with my Turkish girlfriend. We've been doing the long distance thing and haven't lived together yet, only on holidays. All going well we will move to New Zealand where we will settle down.

We both understand that living permantly in Turkey wouldn't work out in the long run for us. So this year would be making sure we click before making the big move to NZ.

So what I am asking is what kind of job can I expect to get with a Bachelors degree, (non English related) An ITTT 100 online TEFL cert and 2.5 years teaching experience in South Korea? And what kind of pay?
I know saving money in Istanbul is not easy but I hope to save at least 1000 lira a month. Still want to have a social life though. Love Turkish food!

Ideally I would like a mon-fri 9-5 job, teaching younger children. My girlfriend is a journalist and might be able to get me some other little side jobs to top things up.

I am thinking December is not the best time to find a good job in Istanbul?
Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

You, my friend, want to work at a private K-12 school like Isik or... well, I've forgotten the names of the other ones. I'm sure someone else can help with names, recommendations, etc.

But yes, you are correct, December is a very bad time to be looking for that kind of job. If you do land one, you should be able to save 1000 TL a month though, or at least close to it.

You may have to work at a private language school, most likely doing split shifts to adults.

Thank's coffeespoonman.

I am thinking that I will arrive a bit later on, in Jan/Feb for possibly a few more opportunities.

Hoping I won't have to work split shifts at a private school but might have to until a better job shows it's head.

What is an average salary for a k-12 school?

I'm sure there are others better qualified to answer this question, but based on what I know, should be around 3500 - 4500, give or take a few hundred. The posh ones pay very well.
