I doubt only in Ibra. That is the major problem with the Gulf. Students complain and ALWAYS get what they want. |

Hey, OP. I think that your elbows are HOT!
It's silly, but not as silly as Islamic swimwear! |

I just finished a year at A'Sharqiyah University. Short sleeves were fine. I wore them with a tie, but many of the other teachers did not. |

Indeed, and Omani students are relatively benign in comparison with say Emirati students.
How anyone can consider working and living in the gulf for ANY quality of life beats me! |

I teach for the military in the Muscat area, in an all-male environment. Most of us usually wear short-sleeved shirts with no ties - except on those days when having an official visit from a Minister or general. Street wear, wear what you want. Two considerations: As the OP mentioned, his shirts are probably made of a heavier material than what you buy here. I don't wear Western shirts much - too hot. The other consideration is sweating. I've found it better to normally wear a T-shirt under my work shirt, just because wet blotches all over your shirt are not attractive. And, not Western T-shirts, either - again, too hot. Ditto with trousers and socks. The lighter the better.Save the heavy stuff for when you travel home.
Side note: I find the quality of life here quite pleasant, as do ALL the expats I know. We have all been here for more than 10 years and have lives both inside and outside the expat community. I guess you have to look at what there is, rather than only looking at what isn't. |

The best advice for new people coming to Oman. I am always amazed at how many miserable people I meet here. If you're unhappy leave and stop b$%ching to the rest of us how much you hate it here. |
