I'm taking the CELTA at Apollo starting Monday. I'm looking for longer term housing i.e. room in an apartment or villa with other expats. Does anyone have any ideas on how to locate this kind of housing? I will be here at least 3 months, maybe longer if I find a job after the course is over.

Prolly best to say which city, to help people out.

Oh and thanks! Thanks to your thread I'm now aware that 'accommodations' is acceptable in American English!

You're welcome. Looks like I had a typo in the spelling. I suppose that's what happens when one is spending their first time in a foreign country with jet lag in a guesthouse with no lights in the room...woops! Shocked

I'm in HCMC and I'd appreciate any assistance. Thanks!

...and prolly is found in which dictionary?

I found a place on this site:

There's also Craig's List, but most prices on there are inflated:

Here's one: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=prolly

And I wasn't criticising the OP - who cares how many bloody 'c's and 'm's accommodation has?

What interested me is that 'accommodations', while clanging to a British ear, is acceptable in American English.

Apologies to the OP - I've never lived in HCMC and hence can't really offer any advice on aomcoidmtoacn there. Those links look useful though. Plobraby getting out and about speaking to people will help too - I'm sure there will be others out there in a similar situation as you and others still who have a spare room. Good luck.

No harm intended, got it! Hey, with my sense of humor, I thought it was funny in an ironic way i.e. hopeful English teacher getting busted for spelling.

Thanks for the links! I had visited the expat site and Craigslist. I ended up securing a guesthouse recommended by Apollo. The accommodations are lovely and in a quiet neighborhood (relatively speaking, HCMC is anything but quiet). Plus, I don't mind not having to fork over a huge deposit to stay in a shared house.

Thanks all!
