It's "easy" if you are lucky enough to have an extra $25,000 sitting around in a bank account . |
Well yes of course, after all having savings is just a matter of 'luck'.
If that's beyond your means, there is a retirement visa option as well. |
I'm guessing with the retirement, you'd have to prove that you have X income every month. The investment sounds easier. Our first apartment cost 25K usd, our second was 38K and we actually DID have 41K just "sitting" around the house. IN hindsight it probably wasn't the best idea to keep that much in a backpack in a dresser, but we didn't want to pay bank taxes twice.
25K isn't that much honestly. Scrimp and save and you can do it. Give up somethings and live with the bare minimum for a while. Neither myself nor my husband had good jobs and we managed to save that much. In a third world country to boot. |

Yes, it's about $800 / month I think, but I wouldn't swear to that. I think also that at least some of it has to come from an 'official' pension, but I'm not really sure what that means. Most of the information I've seen for it is aimed at people from USA with USA based pension schemes, so it doesn't mean much to me.
If we were going for it, we would get an investment visa as well. |

For latin America, good thing that salary isn't that important , have you checked the chronicle and higheredjobs? Mexico seems to be pretty popular with teachers, they finally got an off topic forum, so that shows how many teachers are there. Maybe try PMing some of the people in Mexico? |
I have to say I'm just a bit confused by this. I thought reddevil had worked in Mexico, and recently so--didn't he teach at a uni in southern Mexico for 3 years immediately prior to his MA? Is he not one of the members on the Mexico forum to go to for info and advice? I'm often mistaken about names, but that (great) avatar is pretty hard to miss!

Yes Irish lad, I did work in Mexico prior to starting to the M.A. But never mind, I welcome all posts and ideas
Ive gone to change that avatar so many times, but cant quite make myself do it; such a happy evening! |

Ah, no, don't you do it, lad! It's a glorious sight--makes me smile every time I come across it, almost as if I were there myself. |

Thanks very much for everyones comments, especially those who sent me PMs with useful information.
I have now narrowed down my search to four choices with one strong preference. Lets see how it goes |
