Hi,

Anyone know anything about EFL jobs with GASCO? All I know is they're associated with ADNOC and the recruiter, Brunel, contacted me. They're talking about flying me to Abu Dhabi for interview, but don't give a job description or salary range. I can't find any EFL info about them on their websites.

Thanks for any info.

If I'm not mistaken, GASCO sends people out into the desert to teach English at the on-shore sites and then, brings them back into Abu Dhabi proper and puts them up at a hotel for the weekends. The last I heard, it was the Meridian.

It's been years since I learned of this, though!

Thanks - sounds like a nice weekend then! But doesn't sound like a good job to take my wife to.

Any folks with any ideas on salary?

Not sure about GASCO.

I know about cycle jobs. You maybe work five days then have three back at home. In this case the company will provide you with housing and it would be possible to have your wife out. In the desert, I don't know of any locations where women are allowed to stay overnight.

There are also rotation jobs for example 42/28. In this case you'll be given regular tickets home.

Not sure about the hotel thing. The oil companies seem to be more family orientated.

Salary? Maybe $5 - 7K. Sometimes a daily rate could be offered. Anything between $500 - $1000. Bear in mind with this you don't get paid when you don't work.

My advice. Don't ask any questions and attend the interview as soon as possible. You've nothing to lose. ADNOC will send you a ticket, pick you up from the airport and pay for a hotel. Any reasonable expenses are reinbursed but there shouldn't be too many.

Dealing with a recruiter, it can be difficult to get a direct contact with the company and even when you do, you will be dealing with the recruitment section of ADNOC/GASCO who will probably be reluctant to discuss "trifling" details such as pay and accommodation.

Good luck. Jobs like these don't come up very often. Please post with the outcome.

Thanks for that desertdawg,

I was wondering if it was some sort of scam I couldnt figure out, eg. maybe in their next email theyll ask me to Western Union an application fee or something. They found me from a 2 or 3 old CV I put on a website somewhere.

Might be a pretty good job then? Wish they would tell me a bit more, and I wish theyd contacted me in the summer. They want me over for a couple of days, which would mean taking time off at my current job and Im quite satisfied there. Money may be better, but I dont think Ill get better conditions elsewhere (ie. wife with me, she can work too, low tax, and a few other things). Otherwise Id agree with you nothing to lose. Id have jumped at it just two or three years ago, at least for the free flight.

Damn this curiosity though!

No income tax in the UAE.

If it's a cycle and not rotation then your wife could work and you'd have long weekends together. A pertinent question to ask would be whether you're direct hire or a contractor which can make a big difference.

I wouldn't dismiss it as a scam although I sympathise that dealing with recruiters and oil companies can be strange. Unfortunately if you are looking for concrete answers before committing to an interview, then they might not be forthcoming.

It seems to be the luck of the draw that things find you when you aren't looking.

I know about this.it's not a scam, but hope you realise you'd be stuck in the middle of the desert...would NOT advise it for family...most who take these jobs are singles or those who are willing to leave their families for some time, they don't do rotations as in 2 weeks on, 1 off, but every second or 3rd weekend u get thursday off...hours are long, from 7:30 til like 4:30, salary should be 30000, u pay for housing out of this, but over there, u can get really cheap accomodations...but again,it's living in middle of no where..no malls, no beachers,no shopping, no deliveries lol

Yep - didn't go for it. The agent phoned me a few times after I said 'no' but I still never found out the salary.

Thank you for info, which makes me happier with my decision!
