Hey all,
I thought some of you wiser and more experienced people could lend me some advice. I have some time off and want to visit Japan (Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Tokyo, etc.) from Korea on May 1-6th. Some Koreans have told me that it is holiday season there also so A) all the hotels will be booked up and B) everything will be closed.
How true are these warnings? Is anyone else going to be in Japan? Should I go somewhere else?
Thanks for the advice

You will find that if you throw a stone in Tokyo the person you hit will have come from somewhere else in Japan- during the Golden week holidays there is a mad exodus of Tokyo-ites for the countryside out of the big cities and they all come flocking back in at the end. Osaka and Tokyo are fairly quiet places believe it or not during Golden week because of this.
I would avoid travelling on the trains and planes during the peak periods as trains will be packed 130% to capacity but otherwise you should have a bit of elbow room. Personally I dont see any problem finding accomodation duing Golden week. Any other opinions? |

I went to Kyoto and Osaka last year during Golden Week. Surprisingly I didn't find Kyoto too bad, but be sure to book accommodation in advance. Osaka was too busy for my liking. I think this was due to the fact that although Kyoto is smaller it has more to see so the tourists spread themselves a lot thinner. In Osaka everyone seemed to be in the aquarium. |
