| When Edex originally hired me on the visit visa, I was also told that the work visa would be processed later. After two years working for them, it was never changed from a visit visa. That left me with no recourse when they didn't provide a return ticket to home country as promised, nor did they pay the full vacation pay the first year nor any part of the vacation pay the second year. |

Yes, Edex has done that to several teachers. I'm sure the teachers who were working for Edex on the Qassim project remember. |

| People to avoid! Afriend who recently left their employ also had the problems mentioned previously. No work permit that was promised. Vacation pay not received. They actually increased the teaching load but did not increase the pay. No ethics at all. |

| Working illegaly in the TEFL business happens in many third-rate nations. You will probably get legal if you decide to stick around 3 or more years. |

| Good to keep this active for newcomers. Wondering if people who got an iqama/work visa with edex are regretting it now, because they can't leave so easily? |

No, but one Edex employee in Najran was killed two weeks ago by a car outside the unsafe accommodation. |

Saudi's are terrible driver's, period. It's not the town, it's the country! |

Yep, goes with the territory. An average of 26 deaths a day on Saudi roads.
What I meant was have any of the Edex admin staff been attacked by the contracted teachers. |

| It's funny you should mention that because in the Middle East most all of the hired drivers are foreign men (Pakistani, Afghan, Bangledehshi, Indian, etc.). I think you can imagine how their cars smell. |
I find this an odd assumption. These are not manual laborers and I would expect that they are provided with showers. I find this to be a bit... racist?

It may be racist but most certainly based in fact. Private hire drivers (drive for a household) generally have the same hygiene habits as their employers but others of those nationalities are very often placed in compounds with little in the way of sanitary facilities and the odor reflects those conditions. |

Where are the EdEx employees staying now? When I was there 2 years ago we were either at the Risa Hotel or the hotel behind the Hyatt (?) but what on earth does the "unsafe accommodations" have to do with a traffic death?
Anyone in Najran who stays in their hotel or nearby are really missing probably the best cultural experience in the entire country. There is the largest dam in the country, the janabi market, Old City and any number of good restaurants if you find some younger guys who know their city to take you out & about. I'm now in Khamis Mushait about 2 hours west of Najran and I went there over Hajj and plan to return for the day next Thursday (Dec. 8 so anyone wanting a bit of a tour can PM me & if we have room we will try to squeeze in a couple more. I'll have a rental car and will be with between 2 & 10 or so students from Najran. |

Hmm... Here are some pics off Education Experts' website of what I assume most of the teachers' apartments (er, "motel" rooms) look like. I reckon not many five-course, gourmet meals get cooked in that kitchen.

Wow! I just spent an hour navigating the website and can see why Saudis think we're (not some of us!) idiots.
It's amazing what some job-seekers will descend too! |

Yikes... it looks similar to the little apartment hotel that I used to stay in when I visited Cairo for a month or two. That is about the max amount of time I could spend in a little rabbit hole like that. And it's a "wet bath"!! One of those wash yourself and the whole room at the same time set-ups. Yuck!

Can't imagine living in that space for an entire year. At least it's not shared housing. Or is it? |
