A friend of mine wants to get his TESOL certificate onsite here in China before embarking on a job. I was looking around the internet and found a training center in Zhuhai. Here is the link to the school:
http://www.tefllife.com/zhuhai-china
Has anyone ever studied there? Any opinions (both positive and negative)? Are there any other TESOL training centers in China that my friend might consider...he is not too bothered about location, he just wants the best training for the money.
I'm trying to help him out, but any feedback from the community would be most appreciated.
BTW: tired to search the forum, but for some reason couldn't get the search results to load up. Might be something with my connection. |

Three of my friends did TEFL from that center,and a couple of them worked there,but left within 8 weeks.This is what they told me:
1 Chinese and 1 Australian tutor.The moderator is from Canada,but she has no education.The course is pretty average.It gives you some practice to teach kids.The facilities like dormitory,lunch,dinner etc are appalling.My friends would not recommend that center to anyone.If you need more info,I can email my pals. |

@7969
Thanks for the link...will check it out.
@champ
Sorry to hear your friends had a bad experience there. There is no need to email them...from your response it is quite clear that the place in Zhuhai is a joke. I am now searching the internet trying to find some other place in China that offers TESOL at a decent price without the hassles. Cheers and thanks for the information.
BTW: if anyone does know any other TESOL certification courses in China please do let me know. Thanks in advance. |

Any particular reason you want to remain in China for TESOL/TEFL? Why not try Thailand? |

My friend wants to work in China and not Thailand...but I know what you mean, he could do his TESOL in Thailand and later come to China for work. Thanks for the advice. |

Anyone have experience training with this company?
http://www.intesoltesoltraining.com/onsite_china.htm
Seems like they offer a course in China as well. If anyone has any feedback on this outfit, please share. As stated above Thailand would be an option, but if there is a good course provider in China, it would make more sense to do the course here since my friend intends to work in China. |

OP, I'm not so sure it makes more sense to do anything in China, if there are other options. Made for internal consumption in China usually translates into rubbish.
A couple of Chinese guys find a foreigner to act as a shill and open a TEFL training center. Of course. What better way to rip off foreigners? Reading the above posts, sounds like someone is already onto it.
"Education" in China is an entirely different enterprise than in other places. Particularly for the young and restless, it's just another scam.
CELTA training used to be available in Thailand, probably still is. |

Thanks for the feedback...glad to hear it. They have a branch school in China and I am currently talking with them to see if it is worth it, but if you had a good experience it might be worth a try. Here is their China link in case you want to check it out:

Cheers and thanks for the feedback. |

So just a quick update on the above (if anyone needs the info). My friend decided to go with them (INTESOL China) and will be training in China in November. Better to be here doing the course and also looking for work.
Thanks again for all the help and suggestions. |
