PostPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 2:04 pm    Post subject: work permit process time...!!! Reply with quote

I have been offered a job in teaching in china as maths teacher in 1st week of August. they asked for all my credentials (degrees + certificates + experiences and reference letter). later on they asked me to do a medical check from the local approved hosiptal which I did and send to them.

since my employer has applied for foreign expert ceritificate and its been more than 6 weeks they haven't received A Work Permit for Aliens issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry/ Foreign Expert's License issued by the Chinese Foreign Expert Bureau. when i called them last week regarding the status update they told me that they have applied and they are still waiting reply from chinese bareau.

on the other hand, I have read on web that I usually takes 4-5 working days to get Work Permit for Aliens issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry/ Foreign Expert's License issued by the Chinese Foreign Expert Bureau.

hence my question is that how long it usually takes from the employer to get z visa from from chinese foreign expert bureau ?
also what are the odds of not getting it ?

any one who can help me on this ..

I would say something strange is certainly happening, it is really late (especially if you were offered in August) and the semester must now have begun. Are you native speaker with a passport from either the UK/USA/Australia/NZ/Canada?

I would assume the worst at this point. I would be looking for other jobs in the meantime, though the window for most uni positions has passed and won't open again until the semester break in a few months. Might want to look at training schools instead. If it then turns out it was just some odd delay then great, but if not at least you are already looking for alternatives.

well I emailed them last friday asking them that even if i am not consdered please inform ... and they say that they still want me onboard but due to certain visa policy changes they are facing certain delays.

in the mean run, I for an offer from another institution from beijing and they also started processing my visa by telling me it only gonna 4 weeks to process.

difference.....the 1st job they never had a signed contract with me or interview. whereas the 2nd one , they had 2 interviews after which they selected me and started processing my application.

but still in both cases I also believe that the session has started and do these school still need teachers from abroad ?

I don't want to pick on you but i think the foreign expert bureau issues foreign expert certificates rather than the work permits. Once you have the cert, you can apply for work permit, and both sometimes take about 5 days each. In your case, it seems you are applying for "A Work Permit for Aliens issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry" in which case you may not have to have the foreign expert cert as i have been told before. This could take up to a month from what other FTs in Guangzhou have been saying. You are right that 7,8 weeks is a way too long. I guess it's time to ask your recruiter or the school about their legitimacy.

OP,

Keep in mind that the people with whom you are dealing can be liars, incompetent, negligent, indifferent, stupid, and so forth. They may not be any of those things but their behavior is easily perceived that way by people raised in countries such as USA, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, South Africa, and Australia.

Move on. If they get back to you, fine. If not....

is the school having difficulty obtaining a work permit for a non-native speaker?

Yes you are right its not work permit its Foreign Expert's License issued by the Chinese Foreign Expert Bureau which an employer gets for the employee.....

thats what they have applied for and yet no answer from them... on the other hand, I have been offered job from another private school and they say it takes 3-4 weeks to get you Foreign Expert's License. but at this point of time i am wondering since the session has already been started how come they can arrange at this time.

3rd question is that what about the recruitment companies ? I have recently been contacted by a recruiter offering me a job ... i wonder if its safe to get job from these recruiters. as the salary they offered is much than the institutions I have applied directly.

Miles,

The OP stated in his first post stated that he has been offered a job teaching maths. In what field are you an expert? Certainly not reading comprehension, which teaches its successful students to consider context, which you have neglected.

Why not become an expert yourself, at least on the threads you choose as platforms for your subtle attacks?

I think what Miles is asking (along with others) is whether the OP is a native speaker. They have thus far avoided answering this question, which has been put a few times. From reading their posts I am guessing they are not.

This may be the reason why the school is having trouble obtaining the right paperwork for the visa application.

2-3 months delays? Have i said that Confused

Now, while it's true that where we come from may affect our application process, it's also true that employers', and/or recruiters' practices may have an impact. Just think about which one is more likely Idea
