Is there a possibility to teach privately in China and if so what should a teacher charge?

| depends on the city... In Wuhan I charge anywhere from 200 to 400rmb per hour (depending on the number of students) |

| As he said, depends on the city. One can work full-time doing nothing but teaching privately in the big eastern cities; I do just this. |

What's a good way to market oneself when teaching privately?
I thought about posting a flyer in my apartment building. Most of the people there know that I'm a teacher. |

| However pretty much everyone turns a blind eye. It's highly doubtful you'd get caught or punished- I've been asked many times by teachers in my schools to do private tutoring. However be discreet about it-if you're already teaching at a school it's a bit dodgy to be privately tutoring on their campus. |

Sure, blind eye. Nothing is illegal unless you get caught.
Teaching, participating in any teaching, paid or unpaid, is in violation of the visa regulations, and the SAFEA contract.
Why not just come to a foreign country and violate the laws. I'm sure that is why so many left their own countries - broke the laws, got a handful of consequences and now China is the only place many can get a job. |

Not true in my case. In my little outpost of progress, the FAO rewrote the addendum before I re-signed the new contract to forbid not only working for pay but also VOLUNTEERING in any way. This covers "thou shalt not give service" completely.
I've even been warned not to be seen at other schools, including language centers. (A couple of friends work for a language center).
In my city it is impossible to convert rmb without a letter from one's school attesting to the fact that the money was obtained legally. So far, my school hasn't given me such a letter.
The city parades the FTs through the city twice per year as part of its tourism propaganda. I will refuse to take part this year and cite my contract. That should p*ss off the powers that be at the school. |

I suppose I'm doing the same thing as many of us do- take our local example and assume it applies to the whole country... |
