Mostly looks par for the course. I never had to work on Saturdays, and it was never stipulated in my contract that I might have to. It's difficult to tell by what they write there whether or not teachers assigned to teach those Saturday classes would get both Sunday and Monday off. Personally, I wouldn't work six day work weeks and I wouldn't want to have a split weekend. But that's just me. |

Surprised to see that the salary for 1st year teachers at EF hasn't increased in the last 5 years....thought they'd [the teachers] be making 9.5-10 mill per month by now. That's a brutal monthly wage for 6 day working week in the current economic climate. I believe there'll be 'deductions' from that as well? Yeah, you'll be working most of them saturdays- not that you'd be able to afford them weekend getaways to the 'thousand Islands' that they so fondly describe in the recruitment crap.......remember when I came here 6 years ago a large bottle beer from the local supermarket was less than 10 thou. [I likes a drink when I unwind after work...] Now, the same bottle will cost you over 20 thou. Yeah, the salaries sure have kept up with inflation! Another amusing part of the contract-'pocket money' for the teachers looong day trip to Singapore. You won't have much of that 50 Sing dollars in your pocket to buy a meal/drink or two after you've spent around 20 dollar each way to/from the airport! EF -cheapskates to the end..... |

It turns out the Yus Group places in the following areas:
Kebayoran Baru, Kelapa Gading, Cilegon, Cibubur, and Bintaro
Anyone work at these schools or hoods? It sounds like I want to be in the first two hoods. |

On the subject of EF, I notice they're opening a new school next week - EF Kuningan - in the trendy Epicentrum mall next to Taman Rasuna Apartments. I reckon this place will give TBI Kuningan a run for its money! |

Ha ha. That could be the beginning if the end for TBI. Why would student's pay more for the same quality teaching? |

Ha ha. What about the management? If it hasn't opened yet, then it's probably being managed better... |

What then is the salary that EF Swara or EF Surabaya offer for those with a CELTA? anyone know? I don't have a degree in English [do have a masters in biology. if that makes a diff]
In your experienced opinion... would the salary be negotiable?
What are the other esteemed language schools in East Java? --open to recommendations!
Thanks for your input-- I'm very green yet! |

From my knowledge of various EFs around Jakarta, they offer the same salary to all first year teachers regardless of qualifications and experience.
One school told me that they used to offer different salaries but it caused problems when people found out that others earned more than they did.
To be honest, there never seems to be a shortage of people willing to work for EF, so I guess, from their point of view, there's not much incentive to pay more to people with qualifications and experience when they know they'll fill the positions either way.
Also, you were asking about EF in East Java - the Surabaya branches seem to have a good reputation. You could also try TBI and KELT although you may wish to check with them to see if they'll be able to get you a KITAS (work permit). |

Thank you !... will do.
I've been teaching at an EF here in the states, so I thought that this may count towards experience. |
