To make a long story short, I'm really overwhelmed with trying to find a good teaching job in China and could use some advice.

About me:

--Bachelor of Science
--4 years experience teaching in Korea--3 years public school, 1 year academy.
--Male in mid-30's from the U.S.

Ideally, I would like to get a university job, is this reasonable based on my experience? Also, in Korea, with language academies, you often have to negotiate the contract before signing it--Is this pretty typical for China as well? Even at public schools or the university level?

I'm in the U.S. now and trying to sort out a job that starts anytime between now and the start of the next semester in china.

Thanks Very Happy

I was able to negotiate for my language mill (hagwan) salary and score a bump in pay. For my university gig, it was take or it or leave it.

A lot of it is timing and the desperation of the place. If the bossman is thinking "OH MY LADY GAGA!!! I HAVE 100 KIDS SIGNED UP AND NO FREAKING FOREIGNER!" Then you have some room to ask for more extra chairmans. It also depends on location.

Also, language mill bosses hagwan bosses are birds of the same feather. Read the contract a trillion times and flag anything fishy, make sure your flight is paid for up front, you're coming in with a "Z" visa, and get some references from current FTs.

Good luck.

Thanks!

I'll make sure I get those references; I definitely want to avoid as many problems as possible!
