Sorry to post another topic like this but my qualifications are: TESOL certified, Bachelor of arts and 2 years of overseas experience.

I guess my question is what the best places to apply to are and if anyone has some good places to look into. So far I've received a few bites but I think they're put off by me wanting to wait until January to leave. As I tend to stop getting messages from them as soon as I mention that.

I assume as I get closer to January that will become less and less of a problem. Are there any good schools that offer Visa sponsorship? thanks.

Best place to apply to? The EdB. Looks like you don't have QTS - that might be a problem with the NET prog.

I don't follow your stuff about January. Pls elaborate.

From what I read with QTS, I can make up for it with experience, so I think I should be ok.

I'm sorry, it seems the places that responded to me seemed to want me to leave for Hong Kong very quickly (they seemed to want me there in November or December latest and when I said I wouldnt be able to go until January they seemed to lose total interest) in fact, many of the postings I have seen tend to mention a November or December start. That is why I am saying that as we get closer to January, it should become less and less of a problem. I had a Skype interview and they told me I was perfectly qualified, but then I never heard back from them.

Slightly confused. Are you talking about the EdB NET Programme, or just a regular NET job (ie. native English teacher) for a private language school?

Re. the EdB, QTS does matter. I don't think you can get a job as an EdB secondary NET without QTS, although yes you can get in as a primary NET without QTS. But QTS certainly helps. Also, without QTS, you're stuck on the bottom rung of the EdB salary scale - if they employ you. My advice: If you're in teaching for the long haul, get QTS.

Check out the South China Morning Post on a regular basis: http://www.classifiedpost.com/

Also jobsdb.com

The EdB will be advertising for next September's NET Programme intake soon. Regarding private language academy jobs, as has been pointed out in other threads, you are unlikely to be offered concrete work unless you actually come to HK.

Also something I noticed: when I first started looking I got 3 responses in 1 week and now I suddenly am no longer receiving any responses. I haven't changed the information that I sent, and I think my credentials are quite solid. I don't know whats happened to cause the sudden drought.

So far as the "lower level" jobs go, IMO you probably won't be offered a post unless you're actually here. Bring enough money to keep you going for 2 or 3 months - that's how long it may take for you to interview and for the school to process your visa application. Check out other threads - this topic keeps coming up.
