Hello,

The past few months I have been looking for a job in HK. I've had a few offers from language schools there but the hours seem crazy, so I'm thinking of just booking a one-way flight to HK from the UK and looking for a job in person.

I am mid-20s from the UK, with a BA in English Language and Linguistics, a CELTA and 1.5 years TEFL experience (in Japan and UK). What do you think my chances are?

Also I want to book my flight asap - before the prices keep going up, will HK immigration be OK about me entering with a one-way flight?

I'd appreciate any help/advice.

xx

Being here helps.

Having no work visa doesn't help.

Friend - wife works - before wife, couldn't find anything as he didn't have a visa. Now he is dependent, work has flown in.

It's not easy which ever way you cut it.

Do a year in a language centre and get your foot in the door.

Thanks for your reply Joshua Smile

My other question is will HK immigration let me in on a one-way ticket from UK, or will they request to see a return?

Hi travelbug,

I'm guessing you have a UK passport.
I came into HK without a work visa (I was picking it up from my new employer and had to do a trip to Macau) and without a return ticket and I had no problems at immigration. Friends have also had no problems.

Generally Hong Kong airport immigration appear to be quite laid back, especially when it comes to UK/European passport holders.

Good luck with the job hunting!
