Dear bulgogiboy,
"I don't think there's a teacher on this forum who wouldn't be."
Me, teacher, me, me, me. That kind of envy can drive one bonkers. And if you might fume at what other ESL teachers may unfairly get, well, don't look around the world too closely because what some sports people, celebrities, and CEOs get (some of whom are truly terrible at what they do) will have you bouncing off the walls of the rubber room in no time.
Regards,
John |

I think that parable is meant to teach that you shouldn't let your own happiness be diminished by the good fortune of others...even if it exceeds your own.
Not that I'm in love with religion or anything, but it's a pretty good rule to live by.
Also, it's an allegory for the 'kingdom of heaven'. So it's saying if someone converts their life to the straight and narrow in the eleventh hour, and you've been good all your life...you'll both get the same reward in heaven. Don't be pissed about it.
Likewise, if I apply for a position at PNU in October when the faculty is scrambling to hire teachers, I may get offered a more enticing package than someone who accepted the same position back in June. |
