Sorry. Uni jobs aren't happening right now. If schools are short-staffed, they've already found a way to work it out. |

Another site you can check out is:
www.chinajob.com
That site has listings for both teaching jobs and also non-teaching jobs in various cities in China. |

Something is off here. You were fired from a university job but you don't even have a clue as to when university jobs begin here. That seems quite odd and contradictory.
Of course, the real issue is "why you got fired." It would be quite stupid for people to start giving you suggestions only to find out you were a drunk, raped a student(s), had illegal or fraudulent credentials, and so on.
Most people, here and in the rest of the career world, generally protect their own contacts quite well for just such reasons. |

It's probably too late for fall term (Sept through December) but it probably isn't too early to apply for spring term (late Feb or early March through June). There's lots of paperwork to prepare in order to send an invitation letter for a work visa or even to transfer a residence permit from the old job/province to the new. If you were fired, OP, that might mean that the company isn't willing to give you a release letter which would be necessary to transfer your residency permit to the new company. If they won't, or if you never had one, chances are you probably will have to at least go to Hong Kong if not your home country to apply for the z-visa and re-enter the mainland.

(OP) thanks a lot dude, very helpful. |
I don't know if that was a sarcastic response or not, but it was good advice given you. Chinatefl has a small list of universities and some other public and private schools. The good part is that they give you the direct contact information, so no recruiters. You can find other schools contact info through web searches but it can take time and effort for many schools. Or you can contact recruiters, some may have good experience and scruples, and others will put you anywhere if they can make an RMB or two off the deal. Angelina's esl cafe (a famous/notorious recruiter ) seems to specialize in finding teachers for schools where no one wants to work probably mostly because of locations in the boonies (far away from city life). If you just need a uni job, and can locate anywhere, then that's an option.
If you expect a lot of job offers from fellow teflers, that's not too realistic. Especially since there aren't any details about why you got canned. |

Big bang,
Where does the OP say he was fired from a university? Since when is a "big awful corporation" a university? Read the posts thoroughly; then, if you plan to criticize someone, read it again to be sure you actually know what you are talking about.
That's especially true for "teachers" whose job it is to be thorough.
A "big awful corporation" is more likely a language mill of some sort, possibly not even an educational institution. Since they hire year round, if that's his background, why would he know when school terms start, especially if this is his first job?
His request sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Of course, I emulate the Zhunzi, rather than the Xiaoren |

hey
I just wanna say thanks to the people on the board who had some real suggestions for where to look...
I've never understood why there is so much negativity on Dave's especially in the China section...seriously why are some of you so bitter? I'm unemployed and I'm not as bitter some of you...This is part of the reason that I don't post as much on here anymore.
It's sad really, Dave Sperling has set up something really cool here, a neat little meeting point for people like us but some of you just have to ruin that for the chance to make a snide comment. Why? I don't understand at all...If what you re after is making fun people online why not just go on 4chan or something why not just leave Dave's for people who want to discuss ESL related stuff with a positive attitude.
anyway that's all I have to say for now, concerning the company I was with, I said it was a big corporation, I wasn't kidding it's the biggest company involved with ESL at this moment in China...Use your head and you can figure it out. If you do figure it out don't post it, I'm not looking to cause trouble but maybe you can see why I had such a hard time and have a little sympathy instead of the constant river of negativity on here. Let's try to be positive there is no need to be rude to people on here especially people you don't even know. Try to walk in other people's shoes a little bit, try to see the world from their perspective. I have a hard time believing anyone on here 'wants' to be a bad teacher or 'wants' problems with their employer. We are all just people trying very hard to do the best we can, to work the jobs we can get, live in a foreign country and maybe save a little money. Maybe I am naive to think this way but for me the alternative (being negative and assuming the worst of people) is just not acceptable. |

It's sweet that you want this place to be peaceful and harmonious, as the Chinese might say, but sniffing around for job leads when all you have stated is you have an MA and were fired will not exactly encouraging people to offer up more than vague answers.
Assume you need something fast due to the visa, but if not and you can survive then you might find you have more luck in a month or so when positions after the semester break are advertised. Look hard at any university that is still seeking an employee now, as it may be that there is a problem with the school, contract etc. You might need to look at language schools if you have not been able to find anything uni related and cannot wait. |
