And the document would almost certainly need to be attested by the embassy of the country you wish to work in - so getting more than one copy and getting it attested for each puts you ahead of the game in that if you apply for jobs in say Oman and then decide a few years later to go to Qatar - you don't have to go back to him for another letter - I don't know if an Omani attested document would be recognized in Qatar.

I don't know the exact procedure, better to check with the embassy and ask - even better than that, ask at their immigration dept.

Helen1

Couldn't she have copies of a generic original certified? That is what we do with all the other documents. I never had any "originals" certified.

I'd hate to try to get any answers from the embassies or any other Gulf government department on any of this. 5 people = 5 answers...

I wouldn't want to comment not having first hand experience and as we all know it can change tomorrow, if not in the next hour, or depending on who gets the document. Would I go to the trouble and expense of getting a letter for countries I am interested in? Yes. But I wouldn't count on it not being enough when I want to use it. That's the nature of government in the GCC.

If you are an American I can tell you the ins and outs of taking a child to the Gulf.
PM me.

It would be helpful if you could share a few of your thoughts... pros and cons... with future posters who might find this thread.

You may want to consider an international school because they often have nurseries attached and you could negotiate the fee as part of your package.

If you haven't yet, you're going to want to choose a religion for your child. I know this is a touchy subject, however it's important when it comes to educating your youngster.

Here are your choices:

1.) Islam
2.) Christianity
3.) Judaism

Notice "None" is not an option? That's because it isn't an option.

Expect the standard calendared (paid) days off for Muslim holidays as well as the prevailing local Christian holidays as well as any others your family observes.

justcolleen... it is true that in Egypt (and the Levant), you get Christian holidays, but in the Gulf, you only get Christmas or Easter off if it hits on the local weekend. There are no indigenous Christians in the Gulf. The exception to this is likely to be the International Schools where the embassy kids attend... which tend to be Western run.

It would be nice to get Christmas and Easter off, but itwouldn't be a deal breaker. I've had to work during Christmas before.

If people don't have those days off to observe their faith, it's because they haven't stood firm about their rights.
