Just wondering if anyone could please give some insight into someone with a Masters degree(not in ESL) & about a year of conversational teaching experience for work in UAE or elsewhere in the middleast? Also where in the world are the conversational English jobs or in other words a native English assistant to a grammar teacher besides Korea & Japan?
Thank you!

Your chances of finding any kind of teaching work in the UAE, or indeed the rest of the Gulf, with those minimal qualifications and experience are slim to none existent. The only places which might employ you, are those where you would probably not want to work. Even the bottom-feeder employers usually require a minimum of degree + TEFL certificate + a couple of years relevant experience, waived only if they are absolutely desperate for warm bodies (and ask yourself why they are so desperate).
Except perhaps at the language schools, 'conversational English' classes are also something of a rarity in the petroleum-producing areas of the Middle East, where the emphasis is mostly on reading, writing, grammar and EAP.
You could try some of the more shady recruiters in Saudi Arabia, or perhaps the barrel-scraping private institutes like Berlitz, but I honestly do not believe that in the current employers' market you will have much success. Apologies in advance if this is not what you want to hear.
I think given your lack of credentials and experience, coupled with your desire to teach 'conversational' English, you would be better looking at jobs in China or Thailand.

On this point, I can throw in - not at all common in Europe or North America, though I've very occasionally heard of some European gymnasiums (high schools) that hire a native speaker for spoken English. These jobs are relatively rare, and you need a passport from an EU member country to compete.
I expect that this arrangement is mostly limited to Asia. |
