Anyone know if globnet is still around? Just curious if maybe they are under a new name now.

They still seem to be using Globnet. I don't know much about them other than my recent dealings which were:

Contacting them and progressing through the college selection and interview stages. This went well enough. I didn't much care for the tone of the interview panel though, it was like they were not really interested in any discussion or detailed responses. I was not offered an opportunity to ask questions. A place at Nizwa was offered which seemed OK.

After this Globnet informed me they would not pay my travel from Bangkok to Oman, only from the UK to Oman. So, I refused the contract. I was contacted to say I could fly from Oman but I would need to organize the visa etc.

To cut a long story short, I returned to the UK, and was set to fly out from here when my itineraries were canceled and changed. Not a problem, as I was still committed to going. I was then offered flight times that I couldn't make due the distance I live from the airport. These were changed to late evening departures which were fine but then I was again asked to take a morning flight. The only common thread with these changes as that all new itineraries were cheaper flights.

Globnet could not tell me anything about my post-arrival schedule, such as induction at the college or anything at all other than that I would first stay at their guesthouse.

I eventually gave up on the idea and informed Globnet I wouldn't be going at all. This produced a rather angry e mail response, end of story.

I can't comment other than this but was pretty disappointed by the service and being expected to jump at a moments notice.

I would however suggest sticking to your guns if asked to legalize documents or organize a work visa. They can and will do this for you as well as bring you in on a tourist visa to start with.

Was this recently? Globnet seem to have dropped off the face of the planet.

Globnet has not changed its name.
They are one of the five recruiting agencies used by the Ministry of Manpower to supply teachers for the Colleges of Technology.

Yes. Just last week in fact. I'd go along with the idea that the recruiters serve the same colleges as whoever you contact they seem to send the same proforma.

Agencies, including Globenet, do not do any interviews. It is up the the individual colleges where they send your CV.

The agencies are only responsdible when you arrive to organize getting your resident card or visa. You are on your own for a phone, bank account and housing. Generally, these are easy to do ONCE you have your resident card. Staff at your college should help you in doing this or at least put you into contact with estate agents.

As terms as induction, it varies at each college over what they cover but seeing as the semester has started you will most likely be given a timetable and start teaching immediatly.

The agencies will put you up in MCT for a day or two to do the resident card paperwork and then usually a week in a hotel in the town you will be working in.

I strongly recommend anyone considering signing with Globenet to do a search and read the many posts about them before making a decision.

The other 4 recruiters are better only in degrees, but degrees count. Don't accept from Globenet, there are many other options you can consider. Good luck and be careful here now. It's a great country, but...

Thanks, politely told them no, but they don't want to take no for an answer.

If you're still interested in Oman, let's hope they didn't get your work visa in the works or it can complicate getting one with a decent organization in the country. You could call them and feel them out on this. Good luck.

No, it was just the interview stage.
