An employer cannot "notify" you of a contract change. It cannot be modified without both parties'' consent.

Have you asked them why it is different yet? |
Well first I need to bitch and moan HERE...
Actually I asked another teacher who has been here for more than a year. he said he was notified in a meeting of contract changes. That meeting took place at a time when only 2 of the foreign teachers were in China - ie over the summer, so only they knew.
I was planning on asking the fao when we were alone - she shares the office with several others and there is no privacy. |
you say one of the teachers was notified over the summer. was that
concerning changes to current contracts, or to contracts yet to be
signed for the upcoming year?
what's the timeline? when were you shown the first contract? were
you in contact with them before the summer when the changes were
made? had you signed a contract before the changes? were you
given your very own personal contract to sign, or was it sorta, kinda a
sample contract to look at?
did you ever sign that original contract that you were given? |

I signed the original contract in July. They changed pages 2,3,4.
My signature only appears on page 5. I DID NOT initial any of the other pages.
Contract was signed July and school started Sept 1.
Over the summer they decided to modify terms and simply changed what they wanted and kept the cover ( page 1) and page 5.
I still have not spoke to them yet and am waiting to get more info from the teachers who worked last year. |

As stated, the contract cannot be modified without the consent of both parties. That's one issue. The other issue, again, is that you did nothing to prevent the swapping of pages or terms by not "write protecting" the pages. I always sign, date, initial, and put another special "mark" on pages that would go unnoticed in a swapping procedure.
I suggest you suck it up or move on. There is little to nothing you can do. |

What are you waiting for? The longer you wait, the more they think you're "cool" with what they did, and the more they will be shocked when you object. |
