wow, they lowered his grade? Was there any good reason for that, or just the head teacher didn't like him?

As far as I know he was a lazy student in other subjects, but he really did love and excel in English.
My guess is that the head teacher adjusted his score to be more appropriate of her opinion of him.

I'm aware of other students scores being changed to be higher, but that one students score being changed to be lower left a greater impression on me.

Such is life.

Nearly everything here is run by government-backed organized crime gangs. I just continue to maintain ignorance of it all and just do my job. I cannot change what is happening. All I can do is play a part. It's sad and depressing, but when you're a guest worker it's the only thing you can do.

I think if a student's grade is significantly higher than that of their other classes, they will lower it in order to keep things looking right. A high grade among lower grades catches attention.

I've come to expect that these students already have their grades set, and that's what they get, regardless of performance.
