Hi there, we have just settled in Konya for the next 9 months and I have already been asked about giving private english lessons to individuals, and to small groups (3 or 4). I have also been asked what I would charge - and I have no idea. I realise the charges would probably be less than in Istanbul or Ankara ... any advice on this would be most welcome.
As a little background: I am an experienced ex-science teacher with a Bachelors degree (B.Agr.Sci), Teaching Diploma and Global Tesol certificate. I have worked as a business / management consultant for the past 10 years in New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Egypt.
We are in Konya because we want to be here, to experience the life and pursue our philosophical and spiritual interests ... and at our stage of life and are able to afford the 9 months without working (it is reasonably cheap for us to live here compared to NZ) - so any teaching work is more for the experience and to help others than for $ necessity. Having said that, I have been around long enough to have learned that for any service, it is often treated accordance with what we pay - I'm sure Turkey is no exception, so I want to charge a fair rate.
