A WARNING FOR WOMEN!
At 1.20 am on Sunday 5th November an attack took place on Real de Guadeloupe, one block from the pedestrian walkway in the direction of the Guadeloupe church. A man in a low, lime green sports-type car attacked a British woman, trying to drag her into his car. Luckily, she escaped, but beware of this man if you see him. He is approximately 1.70m tall, well-built -chubby, short, black slightly wavy hair, a black wiry beard on his chin only, olive skin colour, a round face. Approximately 25-30 years old.
Another incident happened two days ago... an intruder entered the house of a German woman, pointing a gun at her. She was able to escape.
Both women are teachers where I work. |

Both of these sound like incidents that could happen anywhere, but still a cause for concern, especially in a place like San Cristobal which has been going a long way in reestablishing itself as a safe place for tourism. You were there recently, Isla Guapa. Any comments?
Any more details, Adela? Not to discount the first incident, but the second sounds much more scary. |

I spent Semana Santa in San Cristbal and stayed with some friends who have a home in the upper part of the town. While you wouldn't find me walking around alone at 1:20 a.m. anywhere in the world, I did sometimes walk home in the evening and felt perfectly safe. There was no way anyone could have entered the house where I was staying because it has a big wall around it and three dogs that would bark ferociously any time anyone would come into the house through the garage. |
