I'm an ALT, working direct hire for Narita Board of Education. I work in a school about half-an-hour's travel from my home, and I have to sign in every day I work.

In a couple of weeks, a BoE training session will be held right on my doorstep, but they still insist I should sign in at my usual workplace. That means I have an hour's round trip just to sign a form. What a huge waste of my time and their travel expense money.

My boss at the BoE is very clear that there is no flexibility in this rule, and I don't think I could directly ask the school secretary to help me "smooth things over". Taking the sign-in sheet away with me is right out.

Who else has to deal with this crap? Have they had any luck reaching an understanding with the bureaucrats in charge?
