Hello, I am having difficult time finding out any information about this education group. It seems that they operate 10+ schools in SA. Can anyone provide additional information re: work environment, conditions, etc.
The wife and I are exploring are options and the more information we can get the better. Thank you in advance. |

They operate (the famous) Manarat and Green Hills schools here. The Jeddah branches of these are really REALLY run down financially and poorly administrated. |

Thanks RachelW. So are you saying the Manaret Green Hills schools are good or would be good places to work? Finding information on Manaret schools has been difficult. I appreciate any comments/info anyone can offer. |

Are you a native reader of English?
It's about as obvious as it gets! |

Whatever! RachelW specifically referred to Jeddah branches being run down. She also said FAMOUS (not INFAMOUS) as to the schools in SA in general. So, I was asking for clarification. I.E. is it just the Jeddah Branches? |

1) Manarat and Green Hills are two different schools, both under Maarif.
2) I would definitely recommend them, so long as you are one of the following types of people:
- Into self-torture
- Evil and deserve to be punished
- One of those education saints who go around pulling schools out of the gutter just for the sheer pleasure of "making a difference"
- Someone who really can't find other work in an economic crisis (It can get that bad folks!)
3) Here is Manarat's website: http://www.manaratjeddahschools.com/
4) By "famous" I meant well-known, not necessarily in a bad way. They actually still enjoy the leftovers of a good reputation from 10-20 years ago when the school was managed more productively. This diminishes year by year. A simple visit to the site in Jeddah will speak volumes. |

5) My experience is with the Jeddah branches. I'm assuming it couldn't be this bad in other areas of Saudi Arabia. |

Rachel, thx.... I had looked at their website which makes things APPEAR to be quite nice but I didn't want to rely on that alone. Since I was unable to locate additional information besides yours, I have decided to not pursue matters with them further. |

I taught in Riyadh for three years. Although not for Manarat in Riyadh. My fourth year was in the eastern region, namely Khobar where I taught for Manarat. The Manarat School in Khobar was not somewhere I would recommend teaching (it's overcrowded for one) but then I didn't like the city as well so that for me was the main reason. The Manarat School in Riyadh was purpose built and based on what numerous friends and acquaintances who teach there have said I would definitely recommend it. Although, the medical insurance is almost insignificant there are other pluses. For example if you have 4 children plus then a one year annual fee of 10,000 SR will cover all your children. Either way I loved Riyadh so I am bias. Also, I remember going to Jeddah a few times and it was quite run down. The only bonus being that Makkah is nearby. Anyway, sad to learn that you won't be venturing out to Riyadh. |
